The name came from efforts to 'purify' the Church of England by those who felt that the Reformation had not yet been completed. Eventually the Puritans went on to attempt purification of the self and of society as well."

The works of Peter Toon are now available online from Anglican Books Revitalized. Although the pagination has been removed, full-texts are provided. This is a great resource, as many of these works are no longer in print!
